Studies have shown that 3 years after spinal fusion patients, stroke risk is not significantly improved.
Demographics, the same disease, drug application adjusted significantly the difference, but in fact, early analysis shows that the risk of stroke there was a downward trend (hazard ratio 0,87), hemorrhagic stroke (risk ratio 0.72), ischemic stroke (hazard ratio, 0.89).
International Yang Ming University Hospital the Chen Yunchun and his collaborators explain in 12 967 patients between 2000-2005, they selected a 2249 spinal surgery patients as experimental group and 2203 in age, sex, consistent with the disease patients as the control group.
Per 1000 patients, the number of stroke incidence in the surgical and control groups, respectively, 9.95, 11.5. The corresponding number of the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke were 1.21, 1.69, and ischemic stroke incidence of 8.86 people 9.93 people, the incidence of surgery rent and the control group of stroke less.
The researchers suspect that increased physical activity after spinal fusion to reduce the stroke rate of disease prevention. Known physical activity can reduce the risk of stroke, and the risks and exercise related. Chen et al in the spinal cord magazine hinted: “We can reasonably infer that spinal fusion surgery to alleviate the suffering of the patient to increase physical activity
They noted that the spinal fusion surgery can reduce stroke risk factors, such as stop smoking, to strengthen the control of diabetes and asthma treatment, which may help to explain the reasons for postoperative stroke risk reduction.
